Speak Plainly
Oil on canvas
36" x 60"
This work is titled Speak Plainly, by Diana Gondek Leviton. It began with a body's outline.
A story then emerges with each added body shape. A story that helps achieve an understanding of one's self.
This theme is seen in other works by her. A series may not be the correct terminology.
While these paintings go together, they may be more part of a continuous belonging.
The painting here shows rebirth. The loss that comes with it and the future that will come.
The soul stays constant. Never an easy transition for those around.
The profiles, on the upper right, represent their judgment. An ever present force but insignificant.
Trained in watercolor, oil has been a transforming medium for Diana, her new found freedom.
Even mistakes can become interesting aspects of her work.
The large canvas brings the figures closer to actual life size, making the painting almost a theatrical one act.
The palette for her theme, also seen in her other work, establishes her identity.
